Eden falls

Crew : 16
Tranportation : Van (3.5km by walk  to the Eden falls)
Duration : One day

When you are going on the KMP (Kandy- Mahiyanganaya-Padiyathalawa) Highway, a road towards Rangla can be found in between the 20th and 21st kilometer posts. There is a bus service Retiyagama-Kandy and Retiyagama-Theldeniya in this route. Eden grove estate can be found after about 2.5 kms passing udispaththuwa and then iskolamuduna (Named after the school situated in a high-land).

The road is in fairly good condition until iskolamuduna, and then the concrete road ends leaving a gravel road. Mainly lorries use the road to transport tea leaves from the Eden groove estate after iskolamuduna. If you are going by a private vehicle the best option is a four wheel vehicle    (which allows you to drive near to the Eden falls). A van can hardly manage to go to the Eden groove estate bungalow but from there you may have to use a lorry (Eden groove estate have a lorry to transport tea leaves) or your feet to walk about 3.5kms. It was around 10 am when we reached there, but it is better to make sure you go early so that you won’t be troubled by the sun through the walk. We had to walk as the lorry driver wasn’t at the estate when we reach there.

If you are walking to the Eden falls, you will be guided by a very friendly dog that lives in the estate bungalow and when we are at few misleading pathways the dog guided us to the destination. The path gives you scenic views of the Knuckles mountain range as well as the surrounding tea estate. Many Jamanarang and guava trees are found on the way.

Eden falls Eco resort provides cooking and camping facilities, We took a kerosine oil cooker with us and the friendly caretaker allowed us to use one of the hearth to speed up our cooking and provided us few utensils. The natural pools near the camping site are safe to bath but too shallow to swim. In addition you will receive a fish pedicure!!!                                                                                                                    😀
